Whakataka te Hau

Whakataka te Hau

English

Get ready for the westerly
and be prepared for the southerly.

It will be icy cold inland,

and icy cold on the shore.

May the dawn rise red-tipped on ice,
on snow, on frost.

Te Reo

Whakataka te hau ki te uru,
Whakataka te hau ki te tonga.

Kia mākinakina ki uta,
Kia mātaratara ki tai.

E hī ake ana te atākura he tio,
he huka, he hauhunga.

Haumi e! Hui e! Tāiki e!

My artwork

Explanation:

I drew this image because this what I saw in my mind when we were listening to the podcast he said that it was a karakia for fishing and it was composed on a boat. In the poem it says the land brisling so I drew the land and the hills in the background, and that the sea has goose bumps that is why I put the boat in the sea.
